Sayre Area School District Welcomes New Superintendent, Mr. Michael Wells
The Sayre Area School District is pleased to welcome Mr. Wells as its new Superintendent of Schools. Now entering his 28th year in education, Mr. Wells brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to student success to his new role.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wells has served various educational roles across multiple districts in Bradford and Tioga Counties. His diverse background includes teaching 7th and 8th-grade math and science, working as a school counselor, athletic director, assistant principal, principal of student services with a focus on special education, and, most recently, as an elementary principal. He has served in the Northern Tioga, Towanda, Wyalusing, and Canton School Districts.
Mr. Wells earned his Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Elementary Education Teaching Certification from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. While at Pitt-Bradford, he was a four-year collegiate basketball player and later served as an assistant men’s basketball coach. He holds two Master’s Degrees—one in Education/Secondary Guidance from Bucknell University and another in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He later returned to Edinboro to complete his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility.
A proud graduate of Troy High School, Mr. Wells has called Sayre home for the past 16 years. His daughter, Maci, attends H. Austin Snyder Elementary School. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Mr. Wells enjoys spending time with his daughter, supporting her in her various activities, and pursuing hobbies such as sports, hunting, and officiating high school basketball games.
Mr. Wells is excited to begin this new chapter with the Sayre Area School District. He is looking forward to working collaboratively with students, staff, families, and the community to support academic excellence and student growth.
